First successful eye donation, transplant from Ramban | KNO

Ramban, Mar 12 (KNO): In a remarkable and inspiring act of generosity, a successful eye donation from the Ramban district was done on March 10, 2025 in Govt. Medical College Hospital, Jammu. The brother of the donor Sewa Singh Bali took this initiative on the motivation done by the counsellor’s / transplant coordinators Narinder Vaid, Manik Sharma along with Irfan Ahmad Lone from SOTTO Jammu to donate the Corneas of Hari OM Singh, S/o Bansi Lal, R/o Ramsu, Ramban who was admitted in GMCH from 05/03/2024 as a case of head injury, reads a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “Unfortunately, despite the best medical efforts, he was declared dead by doctors on 10/03/2025. In this case during the counselling we got the support from a staff member Pardeep, MTS of SSH hospital Jammu as the donor was his relative,” the statement reads. With heavy heart his brother gave the message that “every grieving family should come forward for Organ and Tissue donation and contribute to this noble work so that even while dying, a person can save someone’s life” The team GMCH appreciated the timely initiative and the motivation by the team of counsellors with the family members to donate Corneas, it added. After the consent of family to donate the Corneas of their loved one, ensuring that his legacy would live on by restoring vision to those in need and the work by the dedicated team of doctors including Dr. Nancy Sharma, Sr. Resident under the supervision of HoD Dr. Ashok Sharma, Ophthalmology, GMC Jammu, the retrieval procedure in respect of Hari Om Singh was conducted successfully, the statement reads, adding that the donated corneas were then successfully transplanted, providing the gift of sight to individual suffering from corneal blindness. The GMC Hospital administration extended heartfelt gratitude to the family for their profound act of kindness, as well as to the medical team and transplant coordinators for their commitment and expertise—(KNO)
